This Shin Yea Extreme High Torque Starter Motor is built for modified GY6 125/150cc engines (152QMI and 157QMJ, based on the Honda GY6 design) running 150cc up to 232cc. If you've installed a big-bore kit, stroker crank or high-compression head and your stock starter groans, clicks or just can't spin the engine over, this high torque starter gives your build the extra cranking force it needs to fire up reliably.

Features

  • High torque output: Made to turn over 170cc, 180cc, 212cc and 232cc GY6 builds with higher cylinder pressure.
  • GY6 bolt-on fit: Two-ear mounting plate with 78mm bolt spacing fits 152QMI and 157QMJ short and long case engines.
  • 9-spline shaft: 11.5mm splined shaft engages the stock starter clutch / bendix.
  • Sealed nose: Rubber O-ring seal at the 30mm nose.
  • Taiwan-made: Shin Yea Racing Team branded starter.

Fits short case and long case GY6 engines. Check the engine code stamped on your engine case before ordering.

Installation Notes

This starter draws much more current than a stock motor. To avoid burning out the brushes or the starter relay, upgrade your electrical system before installing:

  • Battery: 9Ah minimum. A stock 4Ah or 7Ah battery isn't enough.
  • Wiring: Upgrade to 6- or 8-gauge starter and relay cables. Stock 12-gauge wire is too small.
  • Ground: Run a dedicated heavy-duty ground to the engine case.
  • Starter clutch: Check your starter bendix for chipped or worn teeth. A high-torque motor will quickly chew up a worn bendix.
